Some of my story
I grew up in Grants Pass, not far from here. I lived on a 10 acre farm with my parents and my sister, Emmy. We had horses, dogs, cats, chickens, goats, and at one point rabbits and cows. At various times throughout school I played soccer, tennis, basketball, and I ran cross country and track. I participated in student government, art, band, and drama. A bit of everything, really. Try everything you can in school; you meet some pretty fabulous people and learn a lot of new things about yourself.
The summer before eighth grade, I met a boy. Eight years later, after being together through middle school, high school, and college, we got married. We lived in Portland for two years before deciding it was time to come back home to southern Oregon. In Portland, I went to George Fox University to earn my masters degree in teaching and earned my endorsements in language arts, social studies, and math. I spent a year teaching and subbing for high school language arts while my husband worked at a company that prepared cadavers (cutting up dead people!).
When we moved back to southern Oregon in 2014, I was hired here at Scenic and have loved every minute teaching language arts and social studies. My husband spent a year at SOU getting his masters degree and he is now a teacher, too. He just couldn't help it--it's the best profession in the world!
